Divorce is one of the most challenging times you and your spouse will go through. It is normal to feel stress, but sometimes, the stress can affect your ability to live a happy, functional life.

According to The Science Times, divorce can result in anxiety and other mental health issues.

Seek comfort from your social support group

You do not have to spend your time alone with your thoughts. If you isolate yourself after a divorce, it can increase your stress and worsen your emotional health. Look to your friends and family for support. Spend time with loved ones to keep yourself in good spirits. While your negative thoughts may come and go, try to open up to those you trust. Leaning on your friends and family can help you come to terms with your feelings. If necessary, think about a support group with others going through a divorce.

Stay active and focus on your health

Staying active can help stabilize your emotions. You may feel less tension and anxiety due to the hormones released through exercise. Consider a new workout routine. If you already have an exercise regimen you love, do not give it up during the divorce. Being active can benefit your mental and emotional health during times of stress.

Admit your feelings to yourself

You may want to hide from your feelings during the divorce. After all, many people go through various stages of grief while trying to move on from their former spouse. While normal, you have to acknowledge your feelings to get through them. If you do not grieve, you may have more difficulty moving on later.

It is normal to relive the good and bad of your marriage. With time, you may feel better than you do directly following the divorce.
